2024 Grantmaking Update

The end of a year presents an opportunity for both reflecting and imagining. Like many of you, we have used this time to lean into deep discussion of what our work has been, and how it might grow in the future. At the center of these conversations is the question of how to make space for new possibilities and adapt to emerging community needs while remaining focused on our commitment to fund work that changes the systems and root causes of intergenerational poverty in Kalamazoo.

Through these conversations, we’ve identified a need to pause and make space for the thoughtful and purposeful consideration of the work ahead of us. To create the space and capacity for this work, SJF is not accepting new grant applications in 2024.

While we won’t be accepting new grant applications in 2024, our work will continue through multi-year funding commitments, and grants (initiated by SJF) to support the work of current, aligned grant partners (including Wellness Fund grants). Internally, the work of creating the structures and space for new and growing work will be underway. We’re energized by the potential and possibility before us and envision a return to responsive grantmaking in 2025.
